Rosatom to hold a satellite event of the Congress of Young Scientists in Nizhny Novgorod

Within its framework, students and young scientists will offer their solutions to scientific problems in five areas

From November 15 to 17, the Mayak Academy named after A.D. Sakharov (Nizhny Novgorod) will host a satellite event of the Congress of Young Scientists - "Chain Reaction" with the support of the state corporation "Rosatom".

The goal of the event will be to unite representatives of student scientific communities, advanced engineering schools, young scientists to solve practical scientific and technological problems. It is expected that over 200 people will take part in "Chain Reaction": representatives of the Council of Young Scientists of Rosatom, student physics and mathematics scientific societies, advanced engineering schools.

The business program will be opened by the CEO of the Rosatom State Corporation Alexey Likhachev and a representative of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

The participants will discuss the role of a qualified customer - an industrial partner in achieving the country's technological sovereignty and study the current requirements of the professional standard using the example of the Rosatom State Corporation. Then, in groups, they will follow the path of a product developer in five scientific areas: nuclear medicine and medical equipment, robotics (the Breakthrough project), new materials and technologies, photonics, and radiochemistry. They will try to create an image of the desired product, analyze the best practices of existing solutions and patents, as well as the market, and assess the resources and risks that may arise when creating a new product. The event will end with the defense of projects, during which nuclear experts will assess the possibility of their practical implementation and select the authors of the best ideas.

As part of the event, Alexey Likhachev will also sum up the results of the competition for the Rosatom State Corporation Prize in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists. The head of Rosatom will award five research teams and one employee for projects that will increase the competitiveness of nuclear energy, improve the properties of carbon fiber products and create a quantum computer. They will receive one million rubles per project.

Satellite events within the framework of the Congress of Young Scientists are held annually with the aim of involving the Russian scientific community in solving the most important problems of Russia. During the satellite events, experts develop practical projects to solve them.

The IV Congress of Young Scientists will be held on November 27–29, 2024, in the federal territory "Sirius". This is the key annual event of the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia, declared by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in 2022–2031. The organizers of the Congress of Young Scientists are the Roscongress Foundation, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, and the Coordinating Council for Youth Affairs in Science and Education of the Presidential Council for Science and Education of the Russian Federation. The event will bring together outstanding leaders of Russian science, representatives of leading scientific schools from different regions of Russia, scientific and educational organizations, government bodies, industrial partners, representatives of business and state corporations, and most importantly - young scientists, winners of competitions, grants, students and schoolchildren from Russia and other countries (конгенера.наука.рф).

The Decade of Science and Technology has been announced in Russia from 2022 to 2031. Among the key objectives are to attract talented young people to the field of research and development, to promote the involvement of researchers and developers in solving the most important problems of the development of society and the country, and to increase the availability of information on the achievements and prospects for the development of science for Russian citizens.

The competition for the Rosatom State Corporation Prize in the field of science and innovation was announced in April 2024. Employees of nuclear industry organizations under the age of 35 could apply for the prize of one million rubles individually or in teams of up to five people. To participate in the selection, young scientists could submit a scientific paper or development, a defended candidate's or doctoral dissertation, monographs, an article or a series of articles. When evaluating the works, the scientific and technical level of developments and technologies, their novelty, the significance of the topic and area of ​​application, the scale of implementation of the developed samples and technologies, with the degree of practical implementation of inventions, the potential for further application of the obtained scientific results, competitiveness in the international market. The decision to award the prize was made by an authoritative jury chaired by the Director General of the State Corporation Rosatom Alexey Likhachev.

Creating opportunities for young people is one of the main priorities of the state. The Government of the Russian Federation and large Russian companies pay great attention to systematic work to reveal the potential of the younger generation. Enterprises and organizations also pay great attention to working with young employees, schoolchildren and students who may soon become their employees, specialized educational programs are being created to train young personnel. Rosatom and its enterprises take an active part in this work.
