Prediction of material corrosion resistance in an extreme environment

  • Research and services for nuclear energy
  • Reactor tests and post-reactor studies

Our scientists conduct research on corrosion in a liquid metal coolant environment and in an aqueous radioactive environment. They also work on determining the properties of vitrified high-level waste. This is essential for predicting the corrosion resistance of new and traditional materials in an extreme radioactive environment during long-term storage of radioactive waste.

  • We have the capability to return unused nuclear materials to the fuel cycle
  • We can produce fuel elements and assemblies for nuclear power propulsion systems
  • We possess a unique set of methodologies for pre-irradiation, irradiation, and post- irradiation material testing in a lead coolant
  • We develop predictive models for material behavior in an extreme environment
